Q: WHEN DID YOU START & WHY DO YOU BLOG?

A: I started blogging my junior year in college, January 22, 2013 at 11pm to be precise. The goal in the beginning was to have an online portfolio that showed both my creative [graphic design] talent as well as my personality through interests. Little did I realize my love for putting looks together & sharing them would lead to the business I run full-time today. But the real reason I blog is because I love it; the people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve received are priceless to me and I couldn’t be happier to grow my passion in the most organic way possible – just being myself.

Q: HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO GROW?

A: If I have to put a number on it, I would say one year. In the beginning I did my research, but perhaps too much “planning” and not enough “doing.” Once I figured out what my niche was, my site came together on it’s own like a domino effect. However, there’s always room for improvement so it’s growing all the time! There’ll never be a day when I’ll sit back and say, “Ok I’ve made it.”

Q: WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?

A: I started with a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with a 50mm 1:1.8 lens. As the demands for editorial content increases per month, so does having a camera with quicker settings – therefore I’ll be shooting with something in the Nikon D7000 family starting 2016.

Q: WHO TAKES YOUR PHOTOS?

A: Seeing that she owns her own studio, my mom takes a majority of my photos. But I’ve recruited the help of some blogger friends to take mine in exchange for me to take theirs. It’s a great way to keep yourself inspired when you have someone in the same industry shooting your content.

Q: HOW DO YOU EDIT THEM?

A: I upload everything into Adobe Lightroom and edit using that software alone. Once done, I export my edited images into a separate folder where they are extracted and re-uploaded to my site. *If you take a ton of pictures per outfit like all of us do, then you should definitely use an external hard drive to transfer all your raw/edited images to once complete. It’ll save your computer’s speed tremendously over time.

Q: WHAT DOES AN “OUTFIT SHOOT” ENTAIL?

A: Set an alarm to wake up at 7am, and be out the door no later than 8am. Early, yes but the advantages you get with the lighting at this hour can be the difference between a good and stellar shot. Plus, you can easily capture all those awesome street side moments without the risk of photo bombers or getting hit by a car. I shoot most weekend mornings or once during a weekday morning, and capturing several looks (4-5 outfits) on one day allows for flexibility when drafting for the upcoming week.

Q: BEST WAY TO CONTACT YOU?

A: Email 100%. I get direct Instagram messages a lot and while it’s nice to have it immediately delivered, it doesn’t allow for my short term memory to stay organized – aka remember to respond! Therefore you’re better off catching me with an email – I do my best to respond within 48hrs but occasionally life happens, so keep in mind! tilden@tobebright.com
