If you can remember what my living space used to look like, then you can see I’ve made a few tweaks since first moving in exactly one year ago. Originally, I kept my furniture on the smaller side because I was so used to a studio apartment & wanted to maximize the appearance of space I now had in this 1-bedroom.

But as I continued to have friends over to entertain, I was finding it difficult to fit more than 3 people comfortably in this space to sit around & chat. Not to mention, it wasn’t the ideal place to lounge out & relax while watching a movie. So I decided it was time to make some changes & upgrades with my furniture, as well as surrounding storage solutions.

I realized I could go larger with my couch & still keep the appearance of a spacious living room. When I saw this Ackland 2-Pc Sectional Sofa in the Raymour & Flanigan showroom, I was instantly drawn to it because it looked like an upgraded version of my existing one! After taking measurements & testing it out by lying on it from all angles, I determined it would be the perfect replacement for my living space.

While I loved the showroom couch’s sample color, I opted to customize the fabric to better suit my aesthetic. It took 8 weeks for it to arrive but it actually ended up working out great for me in the end, as it gave me the time I needed to find a new home for my existing couch.

*I sold my old couch on AptDeco & I highly suggest using this site for selling larger furniture in the city. Not only did I sell it within a day of posting, but the company had their own movers come to my apartment, wrap it up, and deliver it to its new home – this is such a perk for city living, as finding a time to move furniture here is half the battle!

It’s been one month since my new couch arrival & I’m proud to report that this is my new favorite spot to spend my time. It’s SO COMFORTABLE that I’ve purposely fallen asleep on it, instead of my bed, multiple times. Even a couple of friends who’ve come over to hangout end up falling asleep on the couch! Just goes to show it’s that dreamy of a destination now, as opposed to what it once was.

There’s more space for everyone to sit now, as well as more potential for me to work on my throw pillow game. The larger couch encouraged me to get a coffee table & expand my gallery wall, which I’m super happy about how it turned out. I also grabbed this adorable Greta 24″ End Table that was seen in its showroom display, as well as this enormous Arc Floor Lamp that I’m currently staging in my revamped dining space.

With a larger couch came the mission to get rid of existing furniture that no longer suited my lifestyle, especially the ones that didn’t offer storage solutions. I ended up replacing my leaning shelf with this Clermont Ladder Bookcase because of the addition of those two drawers! They’re spacious and perfect for storing away my candles and other things I need in the living room, but don’t necessarily need to have out in the open.
