5 Things On My August [NYC] Bucket List

Seeing that we’re mid-way through August already, it’s becoming more real by the day that my time (physically) living in NYC is coming to an end. Insert tear but in all seriousness, I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter with my new roommate (aka my man.) The only thing I’m NOT looking forward to is the dreaded move…but that’s for another blog post to vent about.

In the next 2.5 months, I’ve decided to make 5 attainable bucket list goals I can easily hold myself accountable to complete. These are more personally-focused due to my circumstances but maybe a few of them will help to inspire your monthly list of goals too!

Watch the Sunrise from The Empire State Building

I had the opportunity to visit The Empire State Building last week first thing in the morning, and all to myself. Talk about an opportunity of a lifetime! My job allows for some pretty incredible moments and this was definitely the biggest one thus far, considering this was a landmark building (aka tourist hot spot) in New York City.

This particular partnership opened up the chance for me to return for another private experience: watch the sunrise! I’ll definitely be taking advantage of this sooner than later, because 1) it’ll soon get chilly in the morning, and 2) it’ll be a tough morning commute to accomplish if I do this AFTER moving to NJ.

BTW you can definitely experience a quieter morning (without the chaos of crowds) if you get in line at 7am, a solid hour before doors open at 8am. You won’t have it all to yourself but you can guarantee getting that picture without having to push through humans like how most tourist attractions can be.

Visit The Restoration Hardware Rooftop Bar

One of the many bar scenes I have yet to checkout, especially this summer because hello, rooftop! The RH Rooftop isn’t brand new, but it isn’t a bar you read about on Thrillist’s Top 10 NYC Rooftop Bars…yet. Good news is that I might be able to check this off my bucket list sooner than anticipated; my best friend is visiting next week & starting our evening here might be the best kickoff welcoming her return to the Big Apple from Chi Town.

Participate in ‘Friends’ Trivia

Did you know this particular theme of trivia is ranked the 3rd hardest in NYC? It follows #1 Seinfeld, #2 The Office and comes in right before #4 Harry Potter series (based on the movies, not books TG – still hard AF.) Considering I’ve re-watched all 10 seasons of Friends non-stop over the course of the last year, and the fact it’ll soon leave Netflix (brb crying), makes it all more of a priority to accomplish while I still live here.

Update: I bit the bullet and signed myself up for tonight’s game at Slate NY.

And in case you didn’t know, you can participate in all sorts of weekly trivia (both themed & general knowledge) hosted by NYC bars all over the island of Manhattan! Take a look at some of the best bars to play here.

Host a Rooftop BBQ at My Apartment

My current apartment building offers an incredible amenity of rooftop space, complete with picnic tables & grills. It only seems natural that I plan a ‘feastful’ evening of rooftop grilling with friends before I move. I’ll make it worth my while and organize a blog post around it too; one of the few times I’ll purposely be mixing business with pleasure.

Finalize Our Moving Plans!

If my time anxiety wasn’t already peaking, then I’d question my sanity. Long story short, I’d LOVE to know exactly where we’ll be moving & sign off on the lease of our new home before the month ends. In reality & for my complete sanity, I need the entire month of September to plan MY move to the other side of the river. Between all the weddings happening every weekend + a trip we’re planning for T’s 30th Birthday, it’ll be the end of October before we (I) know it. Fingers crossed we decide on a place soon & once we do, I’ll be sure to let you guys know with absolute GLEE (& relief.)
