Although I’ve only been living in New York on my own for 2 years, I feel like I’ve been here all my life. Growing up in New Jersey allowed me to visit NYC as frequently as I would my favorite breakfast spot – and literally, I used to do that before moving here. I’d jump on the earliest commuter ferry or train in the morning, meet friends for breakfast/brunch and be back home in NJ by mid-afternoon.

Beyond the breakfast, New York has been a place I call home all my life because I was lucky to live right nearby and figure out the ways of the concrete jungle for years prior to moving in. This state is where my first apartment is, where I began my true adult life after college, and the place that allowed me to figure out who I really am.

When you feel your most real, vulnerable and confident self, a sense of security comes into play that reminds you of the comforts of home. I feel this way in both New Jersey and New York, but I owe NYC to my current happiness.
