Every change of the season triggers me to engage in a clean slate by purging my closets and making decisions on what to toss, keep, or store for later wear. During this particular “fall fever” moment I came across a silky jumpsuit I completely forgot about owning as well as a hilarious example of what a “one size fits all” sweater represents overseas…
To make the most of two pieces I loved in theory but wasn’t 100% sure about keeping, I opted to compromise in an outfit that came to mind at random. Transitional weather means exercising in lighter layers and making the best use of your summer pieces. I also like to do this because it reminds me of how versatile my closet can be if I just use my imagination.
A year ago in February I received this adorable sweater that I believed to be oversized and snuggly – well it turned out to be something that would fit an American Girl doll (but stretchy enough to get over my body, somehow.)
Today the fit isn’t what it used to be which got me thinking about saying PEACE OUT to it or giving it another try with one mini alteration (I mean, the print is what sold me to get it in the first place).
I chose the latter and snipped the claustrophobic high-neck from the sweater to make it easier to put on. Plus the cropped nature of it allowed for a great layering technique over a jumpsuit that was too strappy and exposing for October weather.
Consider this a lesson in starting the fall with a clean slate – in both your closet space and your clothing pieces with potential. Sometimes all it takes is a little DIY.
