Well, it’s time I’d let you all in on a big life decision we made – we’re moving to the Burbs!
I’d be lying if writing this life update post didn’t feel the most bittersweet right now; it’s truly so exciting and so sad for us at the same time. This was always the plan for us from the start – our intention was to live in Hoboken for 2 years before moving back to a town closer to our families (still in NJ.) But naturally, our 2 year “plan” sort of changed with everything going on & you know what happens when you make a plan… LOL.
The reality is that with the pandemic’s uncertainty, it became a question of our long-term happiness should we have decided to stay in Hoboken for another year. Part of me feels like I’m abandoning my city, which we never got to experience to the fullest despite having moved in almost a year ago already. When the Pandemic hit in March, we were finally at a place where we felt ready to explore our new surroundings together. I was most looking forward to Spring/Summer here because of all the amazing memories I had when my best friends lived here only 3-4 years ago. But all of that was cut short and honestly, the Hoboken I know and love won’t be returning to it anytime soon.
The choice to move home was something Thomas and myself discussed and talked about with each other for several months, practically since the end of April/beginning of May. We wanted to see what would happen by the Summer, if things were going to open up or if having somewhat of an enjoyable Fall/Winter seemed possible. But NJ’s restrictions sort of made the decision for us – considering it was JUST announced today that indoor dining will resume at 25% capacity on Friday, September 4… (better late than never I guess.) Once Fall comes around, it’s only a matter of time before we get locked back up in our apartment(s) and personally, neither one of us wants to mentally or emotionally put ourselves through it again if we don’t have to.
So the decision to move home was the best one we could make for ourselves – to be closer to both our families and have a private outdoor space to enjoy. Luckily, we’re only moving 1 hour by train/car/ferry from NYC and Hoboken, which will make both our commutes very easy when the time comes where we can both return to work safely. I absolutely plan to spend 2-3x a week in the City or Hoboken to maintain structure and routine, considering I’ve been a life & style blogger based out of the NYC area for almost 5 years now.
As we get closer to our moving date at the end of October, I’ll absolutely be sharing much more about our new house and the plans we have for our adorable cottage on the river. But I figured it was time to announce our biggest life update to my amazing community here, who’s supported me since the very beginning of my career – from undergrad years in college to living in NYC, navigating my entire 20’s both in relationships and as a single lady, to meeting the love of my life & moving in together – and now as I enter the next chapter of this life I’ve built and openly shared on this platform with you all. The best is yet to come!
Congrats! This is so super exciting to hear! I just love the process of house hunting too! I hope your move is smooth sailing & I can’t wait to get the deets on your new home! ❤️
Congrats on the move! I love Hoboken but I can see why you would want a house especially this one that has such a lovely view! I’m also making a move more north in NJ so I’m super excited about that!

I’m so excited for you and Thomas as you begin a new chapter in a wonderful new location! Wishing you much happiness in your new home!
This is so exciting and that view looks so peaceful! I’m from NJ too and I know how Hoboken and the City can feel so crammed especially when you are forced to stay inside. I hopefully Hoboken will recover sooner than we could hope for! I’m sure you’ll be much happier in your own home for the winter. Congrats!
