I’m someone who suffers from an overactive, anxiety-driven mind.
With a demanding job and an unpredictable schedule, it would be shocking if I didn’t constantly feel the need to be working on something. But like all jobs, there’s a high level of potential to have a mental breakdown when overwhelmed & overworked. And trust me, I’ve been there…it’s debilitating.
Over the years I’ve learned that in order to regain focus and productive clarity, I need to channel it through an active workout. Therefore, my solutions have been either going for a run, taking a HIIT class, or doing anything that requires my mind to keep busy preparing for what’s next.
The problem with this strategy is that I’m never able to truly calm my mind when feelings of anxiety arise; my only solution is to redirect my mind by focusing on something else and hoping the mental break from work will allow me to reassess upon my return to the desk. But unless I’m extremely exhausted, my mind will continue to go a million miles an hour when lying in bed trying to turn off for the evening.
Again, beyond debilitating…
So in an effort to teach myself how to self-calm, when going to the gym or for a run isn’t possible, I’ve decided to take up Yoga once again. I used to do a lot of it in the past but it was never truly for me; my mind continued to wander during the meditation moments and it would drive me crazy. But I’m ready to give it another try, this time really putting in the effort to see if I can get to a place where I can find balance in times of mental stress.
Although my revisited yoga journey is just beginning, I’m already getting excited about the progress I’ve made in just a few short weeks. Thanks to a revolutionary yoga mat, I never imagined learning to like Yoga would be this quick of a turnaround!
INTRODUCING THE GURUGRID
The Gurugrid is an eco-friendly yoga mat designed with a printed pattern of lines, circles, and numbers that allows any level yogi to properly place his/herself on the mat.
This grid system works as a place of reference for the various yoga poses, which in turn enables the yogi to dedicate his/her time & energy to alignment, breathing, and meditation.
THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF ECO-FRIENDLY MATS

This mat offers you the essential grip for any pose & any type of yoga at a great price!

BENEFITS OF USING THE GURUGRID MAT
By referring to the grid system pattern, I’m able to set my own “personal” standards of alignment for each pose regarding my shoulder & hip widths.
Knowing where to place my hands & feet has allowed me to cut down on the time spent determining what feels most comfortable for my body, when switching position into the next pose.
The printed grid pattern gives me a focus point, allowing my hyperactive mind to slow down during those calm & quiet moments.
I’m noticing my positions to be getting straighter & stronger with continuous practice of proper alignment.
Wearing ⇥ Ellie Active ‘Power Surge’ Set
I’m so obsessed with this month’s collection outfit from Ellie Activewear! Not gonna lie, the camo print makes me feel relatively badass, especially when I’m struggling through some of the yoga poses I used to know better LOL
IT’S GREAT FOR THE GYM TOO!
I’ve also been using my Gurugrid mat on the days I do my BBG workouts in the gym.
With additional support from the mat, getting through the ab workouts is far less grueling than if I performed without. I’m able to remain in position to get the most effective workout during each set, rather than sliding all over the slippery gym floor.
This post really resonated with me. My go to during stress is a hard run and second an intense spin class. I enjoy both and do find it helps calm the nerves and recenters me in terms of helping me find a starting point for my to do list. That all being said I feel like I can’t ever still the mind or be truly in the moment. I want to give yoga another go so I’ll be watching for inspiration like this post.
I know having a 24/7 job doesn’t do any magic on an anxiety driven mind. I haven’t personally done yoga but I can see how it would be relaxing. This guru grid mats are a nice way to help with doing yoga by yourself and at your own pace. A nice addition too to your other workouts. Cute leggings btw!
