I’ve had these four bras for maybe over six years now – I kid you not. And yes, they are hanging on by threads. Why I haven’t gotten rid of them is probably due to the fact that if it ain’t falling off my chest, I ain’t paying $60 for another. Don’t worry – I have plenty others I rotate through but when it comes to bras, they don’t age well like fine wine or George Clooney.
Besides the obvious wear and tear of each bra shown above, the problems continue from the underwire protruding to the straps falling out of their designated loops. Of course, this is expected over time but frustrating all the while. On top of all this, here’s a fun fact: about 80% of women wear the incorrect bra size which might contribute to the disintegration of our beloved over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders.
But we’re in luck ladies! For the entire month of March New York City’s landmark bra store Town Shop is running its “bucks for bras” special, which allows women to bring in an old bra and receive $10 off the purchase of a new bra. Now is a great time to get rid of those old bras and walk around more confidently in a perfectly fitted new one.
So, how do I know if a bra is old and in need of an upgrade? The magic number is 100. That is the number of wearings when diminishing returns sets in. After 100 wearings the elastic is compromised, the cups stretch, and the bra loses its elasticity, which it desperately needs to keep “your girls” where they were meant to be! Gravity is mean!
Town Shop is a New York landmark. Open and serving the city since 1888, it sells top name brands and gives the customer something they cannot receive online: a real fitting. You can’t do better than that.
“Bucks for Bras” Bring one old bra to Town Shop and receive $10 towards a new bra. The offer is available up to 5 old bras for the purchase of 5 new bras.
And now..here’s your chance to enter an awesome giveaway hosted by Chantelle Paris, where THREE WINNERS will be chosen. All you have to do is enter your email address and “like” Town Shop on Facebook via Rafflecopter below.

Love the pink bra on the right!
I think I regret throwing my bras out because I’m so emotionally attached to them…we’ve been through so much together :’)
What a great deal! I’ve had some of my bras forever, will definitely be trading in!
Beautiful bras
What a cool program! I need to clean out my bra drawer – my bras are definitely due for an upgrade.
Bronze Magazine supports ‘Bucks for Bras!’
I usually wear my bras until they perish.
100 is the magic number! Now I can let the attachment to my old bras go and get some new ones!
Being able to trade in an old bra definitely eases the spending more $$ part!
Good idea! It’s hard to part with old bras though 🙁
What a great idea! I wish more places would do this!
this is awesome! thanks for sharing
Love that: “they don’t age well like fine wine or George Clooney” .. That they don’t! I have a few hanging in there as well, I really hate bra shopping and have been putting it off..
What a great idea! I am so glad I know about Town Shop now! Thank you!
A good bra is like a good pair of jeans, once I break them in I don’t want to give them up! Although, I’d love to be able to trade my super old ones in for cash off a new one <3
Man…100 wearings? I’m pretty certain mine have definitely outlived their intended lifespan…sadly it seems I need to do some shopping and retire the poor things since they’ve definitely gone above and beyond the call of duty!
I feel your pain…the underwire is a pain.
What a great idea! I will have to see if they have a location close to me 🙂
Such a great concept! I wish more stores would adopt this idea!
This is seriously amazing. Why don’t more stores do this? Genius!!
I have so many old bras lying in my drawer. Wish there were a Town Shop near me.
I love that pink bra! I wish it wasn’t so hard to say goodbye to faithful bras. I definitely wear mine a little too long.
