Once upon a time, I was the last person you would see wearing a collared shirt, especially a white button-up – I blame the horse show circuit for that one. The ones I wore to compete in shrunk within one wash cycle and felt more than restricting, deterring my preference for the notorious preppy collar at the time. But as I’ve aged and realized that certain clothing is more comfortable in the next size up, I’ve come to embrace the white button-up as a sophisticated staple in a 20-something woman’s wardrobe.

So yes, buying a larger size was one update I made to the garment if I were to wear it comfortably. Another moderation is the incorporation of my favorite trend – layering. With the addition of a knit sweater, I intrinsically want to pop the collar out for view – say what!? And with a simple pair up of colors such as this ensemble, the leopard flats I’m more than obsessed with stand out in all the right ways.

When dealing with the classic white button-up it’s important to accessorize with just as traditional pieces, especially if your pop of color or print has been added to the mix prior to. My normal metal wrist line up has been replaced with a leather and rose gold timepiece and an ivory shoulder flap bag coordinates just as beautifully. Shop similar below:
