Growing up a mile from the beach in NJ has conditioned me to feel the most at home when I’m near a body of water. So when I moved into the city, it almost felt necessary that I pick an apartment within easy walking distance to one of the two rivers surrounding Manhattan. Fortunately, I’ve been very lucky to spend the last 4 1/2 years living in two apartments within 5 minutes from the East River – the first in Murray Hill, the second & currently in Financial District.
Being this close to the river allows me to feel the most at ease, especially when city life feels particularly extra stressful. Whether it’s running alongside the river, breathing in the salty air, watching the current & tides, or listening to the boat traffic – all contribute to bringing me back to a place where I’m cool, calm, & collected.
