Mixing prints and textures is a fun way to style an outfit, and serves as an opportunity to re-purpose pieces in your closet you rarely wear yet haven’t gotten rid of. We’re all guilty of holding onto some items that probably make an outfit 1x a year (me especially) right? Finding a new or alternative way to wear something that doesn’t see the light of day too often is a fun experiment to challenge yourself with.

Up until now, I’ve only worn this dress-turned-blouse one time…as a dress, of course. I love the print of it (hence why I haven’t gotten rid of it) but felt bad knowing it was gathering dust in my closet over the winter. It also couldn’t be worn without a pair of extra high over-the-knee boots because my torso is longer than you would think, and I didn’t love feeling like it was too short to be worn comfortably.

Therefore, I challenged myself to make it more casual. By simply unbuttoning the front of it, tying it at my waist, and slightly tucking it in loosely I easily re-purposed this dress to work as a top. Not only did I make it into a piece I can wear more often during the winter, but I’ve also recognized how seasonally versatile it will become in the spring as well!

As for these pants, I’ve always loved how cool this plaid coated pair looked when worn. From a distance, they look like another pair of skinny black jeans. That’s what makes them special when seen up close in detail. The subtle nature of this pair allows me to match them up with another print (like floral) when using the same color for each in term of a background canvas (i.e. black).
