Bye Glasses, Hello Contacts | #ChangeItUp with ACUVUE®

I have glasses since high school after noticing my eyesight was slowly becoming more blurry in particular circumstances; from sitting in the back of the classroom to not being able to read the license plates of the cars while driving on the road.

Up until now, I’ve worn glasses whenever my eyes felt strained or otherwise not 100%. I blame computer screens as the reason my eyes have gotten worse with time. But having to remember to bring a pair with me or making space in a small bag for them just in case they are needed has become more of an inconvenience. On top of that, I started noticing my prescription wasn’t doing it for me anymore…and it was time to get my eyes checked out.

I’ve thought about contacts in the past but I didn’t think I’d be a candidate. To my knowledge, I have a slight astigmatism and believed that these types of conditions didn’t require prescription contacts. I was also under the impression that wearing contacts would weaken my eyes in the long run when worn full time. It also didn’t help that I was scared to touch my eyeball…

With age, I’ve come to recognize that the idea of contacts might not be a bad thing to consider during this time of my life. I’m noticing more often how blurry things are starting to appear and with my busy schedule, I can’t afford any types of limitations to my lifestyle that I can’t take some sort of control over. I mean, have you ever tried running with glasses? Better yet, running with glasses on a muggy, foggy morning? It’s not ideal…

Therefore, I decided to get my eyes checked and see if I would be a candidate for contacts.

After partnering up with ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses for Her Campus College Fashion Week, I was treated to a complimentary eye exam right in New York City. I visited Dr. Denise Whittam at Cohen’s Fashion Optical and explained my story of being tired of my glasses and that I was interested in seeing if I would be a candidate for contacts.

First of all, I’ve NEVER had such an AMAZING experience at any doctor visit…so to say that I had an incredible visit says a lot especially when talking about getting my eyes checked. Not only was my visit only a half hour long, it was extremely educational for me. Dr. Whittam not only checked to see if I was a candidate (which I ended up being) but she made me feel comfortable with every exam she did to check the health of every part of my eyes. At the end of my exam, I had peace of mind knowing my eyes were very healthy, which was great to hear considering Macular Degeneration is hereditary in our family.

….

I learned that the health of your eye has a lot to do with what type of contacts would fit and benefit your lifestyle in the most seamless way possible. My eyes tend to feel strained and somewhat dry more often than not, which I explained to her and that determined what type of contacts that would be best for me

Dr. Whittam fit me with ACUVUE OAYSYS® 1-Day with HydraLuxe™ Technology contacts – which are great if your eyes feel tired from staring at digital devices or working in challenging environments.

This lens can help with demanding days and is available with correction for near and farsighted prescriptions. Since these are Daily Disposable contacts, not having to worry about reusing them is a great perk! I can wear them all day long and simply toss before I go to bed.

What makes this particular contact lens special is the all-day comfort, vision and handling thanks to the HydraLuxe™Technology. This contact lens has tear-like properties that work with your natural tear film, providing all-day comfort and performance. My eyes feel so hydrated and clear, as well as protected with the highest level of UV protection.*

Once I put these contacts in my eyes and learned how to take them in and out (which was great to be given that practice during my appointment), it was like I was seeing a whole new world! I’ve never seen so clearly in my life, even with glasses! Knowing I can now work out and go about my entire day seeing perfectly, without feeling like I’m wearing a contact lens is incredible. My eyes have never felt or seen better and I’m so thrilled to #ChangeItUp and now be able to experience a life without glasses!

For Important Safety Information

Helps protect against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea & into the eye.

WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV- absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed.

NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.
