Well it’s official – Winter’s here to stay. Joy (sarcasm implied). But as I prepare for another early morning of relentless 30 degree weather, the idea of wearing five layers under a coat feels heavy and exhausting. Another thought in my mind is wondering what I can wear during our family gathering the week of Christmas. We’re a casual family but as much as I pick comfort over anything else on a regular basis, I would like to appear put-together if I can help it. If only there was a way to feel warm while appropriate and comfortable, from top to bottom, in one layer..oh wait! There is!

Those cable knit sweaters made of REAL wool are hands down the warmest choice of coverage. Our moms weren’t kidding when they insisted on dressing us head to toe in this textile fiber – it’s virtually wind resistant unless cable knitted like this. Even still, I’m wearing one layer underneath – a t-shirt nonetheless – and not half as frozen as I anticipated to be! So imagine a coat on top of this situation – roasty toasty. Plus, the insulating faux leather pants aren’t a bad touch to keep the legs warm either. AND they’re a step up from a pair of jeans that fit the part of looking “put-together” for a family affair.
Please note: Wearing sneakers and exposing bare skin is not suggested for a windy, 30-degree day but if it happens to be in the upper 40’s or higher, you’ll be quite comfortable. Shop similar below:

At a family gathering dinner, I always opt for a baggy pants to have space for my growing stomach after food.
I am a big fan of cable knit sweaters. And this looks so comfy and warm.
